Something to Declare!

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your Name, O Most High,  to declare Your loving-kindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness by night…Psalm 92:1-2

Do you remember that film where the butler is in love with the lady of the house?  The trouble is, it’s not really appropriate for him to tell her.  So he represses his emotion.  It’s totally obvious to us, the viewers.  We can see it all over his face!  It’s nearly bursting out of him – every look, every glance – but dutifully, he just keeps on keeping it in.

The praises of God are not meant to be like this!  No way!

And my tongue shall declare your righteousness and Your praise all day long – Psalm 35:28

Because Your loving-kindness is better than life, my lips will praise You! – Psalm 63:3

My mouth is filled with Your praise and Your glory all day long – Psalm 71:8

There are so many verses about verbalising the praises of our God!  There are so many scriptures which exalt us to speak out our worship – to thank God, to praise Him, to extol Him, to magnify Him.

Why?  Because He is worthy.  And His love for us is beyond all measure – it’s the most wonderful thing there is to know!

And because God’s goodness is too wonderful to keep to ourselves.  It’s got to be declared!  Sure, there are definitely times when it’s right to meditate on God’s goodness internally, to mull it over within our hearts.

declare it

But there’s something powerful about actually SPEAKING it out!    When we speak something out, it carries an added weight….an added impact!

Death and life are in the power of the tongue – Proverbs 18:21

Declaring God’s loving-kindness out loud is powerful.  It does our souls good.  It does others good too!

If a problem shared is a problem halved – then surely a blessing shared is a blessing doubled!

Declare:  proclaim, announce, make known, state, communicate, express, make public, circulate, publish, broadcast…

All these synonyms involve action:  Sing it, shout it, blog all about it!  We all have different ways of expressing ourselves. But whatever you do, don’t keep it in!

Let heaven and earth praise Him, the seas and everything that moves in them – Psalm 69:34

All creation praises Him!  Scripture says that if we didn’t praise Him, the very rocks would cry out!  Let’s not be the silent ones.
